Point and shoot camera and SLR camera? Why would u choose SLR camera over a point and shoot camera?

Margy Sandquist: I find that SLR camera provide a better Depth of Field in the pictures taken as compared to Point and Shoot camera. Moreover it is able to capture low light pictures without the need of a flash using handheld position.

Riley Migl: A really good SLR would be the Nikon D70, I use it for my yearbook and it works very well...The real difference that I can se is manual focus because sometimes you just need to.

Robin Marchione: Point & shoot cameras are for casual photos. These are small, and portable. also these are cheaper and are generally used by almost everyone. These do not have much settings or tweaking that can be done and as the name suggest you just have to point at what you want and click. They are Cheap and portable. But lacks the quality and crunch provided by SLR cameras.Check out this point and shoot digital camera from canon for example:http://indiareviewchannel.com/products/10556-Canon...SLR cameras are Single Lens Reflex Cameras an! d are used by serious photographers ranging from amateurs to semi-professionals to professionals. These cameras have complete manual functions and you can experiment with what ever you want the only limitation is then your imagination. SLR cameras provides the option of lens interchangeability so that you can change it according to your use. And lots more. They provide the best image quality. But the only demerit is they are very costly, complex, cumbersome and very bulky. But after all every good thing comes at a cost. You have learn a lot of functions and theoretical knowledge about using them. Also you need to take a lot of care as they are very delicate. And check this Digital SLR camera also from canon:http://indiareviewchannel.com/products/10557-Canon...While making your choice it all depends on your use, budget and seriousness about the quality of photography you are into....Show more

Tory Clapper: SLR stands for single lens reflex, what this means is it uses th! e same lens to show you the image through the viewfinder that ! it will take the picture with. this allows you to center your subject and take a perfect shot.most point and shoots use a view finder that is a hole on top of the camera over the lens, and gives you innacuracies. (called twin lens reflex or TLR)Anyhow with that out of the way SLR's are always better in every way except compactness.SLRS can shoot many frames per second some as little as 2.5 some as great as 8 or soSLRS use lenses that come off, so you can upgrade, or have multiple lenses. this allows for zoom shots, and upclose macro shots. or even wide fish eye shots.SLRS have clearer images, and can take a RAW picture which depending on the camera can have over 14bits of data PER PIXEL, this allows for huge gain in quality, and editability. JPEGS have 8bits of data. with 14 bits yoru talking many many many more times the detail, and you can bring detail out of blown out areas, and shadowy areas.SLR Lenses blow away the teeny tiny plastic lens in Point and shoots.SLRS uses ! larger sensors which allow for more light and this allows for faster shutter speeds which means clearer pictures in the dark.slr's have manual controls that most point and shoots don't have.the list can go on for a while...Show more

Buster Exline: PAS cameras are great for one thing....small thus portable....SLR (Single Lens Reflex) means just that - Only 1 lens on the camera and thus the pictures are more clear and now most SLR are HD compatible which means your pictures are very clear and rival 35mm film. The PAS cameras have multiple lenses which is why it is very hard to get a clear still shot from a scene with a lot of action. Yes SLR are more expensive, but the pictures are more clear and your shots will be more pleasing. Canon and Nikon are the better SLR cameras, Canon has universal threads to fit jsut about any 3rd party lenses where as Nikon I think, uses its own design. Double check though as its been a while since I worked in DI and things change....Show! more

Coleman Petropoulos: better light, better range, better han! dle but heavier load. that's a dslr over P&S
