How to do laundry: college style?
Madlyn Fallis: Dark Blue is considered a dark as well as black red, and purple and you may want to wash these in cold water, warm is ok too but not hot. Pink, light blue, grey, tan/khaki are considered light and should be washed in warm water. I usually wash my whites seperate in hot water with bleach but you can also throw them in with your lights. Do not use bleach on anything colored!! Don't wash red with anything white as it will come out pink! Detergent goes in with the wash cycle there are usually lines on the cover to measure how much to put in. I rarely go above the second line. For most things I use the first line. When drying things you can throw in a dryer sheet to prevent static cling or you can use liquid fabric softener in the rinse cycle of the wash machine. My machine has a spot on the top of the agitator for softener and you can jsut put it in at the start of the load and it will dispense at the proper time on it's own. Most laundromat machine are! similar. I generally dry things on permanent press as well. You don't want your dryer too hot or it may shrink your clothes....Show more
Lashawn Zabarkes: I mix everything together in one load and do it on the colour setting in cold water with the cold waited detergent and add some washing soda.
Melina Minneweather: A dark blue shirt is dark. Goes with other dark clothes -- black, dark blue, dark purple, brown, etc.Bleach is for white cottons, like t-shirts (with no pics), white cotton undies, and socks. Be sure you read the directions on the bleach container -- either put it in a bleach dispenser on the washer, OR dilute it in water before adding it to the wash water FIVE minutes after you get the laundry washing. This type of laundry comes cleaner when washed in HOT water. Tide with Bleach (it's not chlorine bleach) is good for washing all white clothes. Be sure you use the right amount for the amount of clothes you are washing -- not too much or too l! ittle. Some white clothes, such as t-shirts with pics and fabri! cs that are not cotton, come out better when washed in WARM or COLD water -- check the labels on your clothes.Wash dark clothes in WARM or COLD water (again, check the labels on your clothes). Turn your really good dark jeans/pants/shirts inside out before washing -- this will keep them from fading. (Turn them right side out to dry.) Tide (no bleach) or Cheer liquid is good for this. Woolite is my favorite. Wash brightly-colored clothes in COLD water (to prevent fading). Same detergent as for dark clothes.DON'T FORGET TO BUTTON BUTTONS AND ZIP ZIPPERS BEFORE WASHING CLOTHES.There should be instructions on the washer. If not:Put a load of laundry in the washer. Spray any spots or stains with Shout before you put them in.Measure detergent according to size of load. Put in detergent dispenser.Choose wash cycle, temp of water for wash and rinse, size of load. Start washer. If all else fails, call Mom or a friend. :)...Show more

Arlen Decorte: College Style:Laundry 101Don't wash towels with anything but towels. Doing so will cause pills on stuff. Pills make things look like crap. Bring enough towels so you can justi! fy washing them alone. If it's stained pretreat it when you take it off! ...Even if you aren't washing for 5 days. That includes white socks that you have been walking outside with. It won't hurt the clothing to pre-treat it in advance. There are 5 types of wash 1. Jeans and sweats (heavy cold water take a long time to dry) 2. Dark stuff (light weight dark stuff like black t-shirts Cold water they dry fast)3. Light stuff (sheets white tshirts cold water they dry fast) 4. Stuff you have no clue what to do with (blankets, sweaters, wierd colors)5. Towels ( warm water) Buy white towels. So lets talk about # 4. Never overload a washer or stuff does not come clean...you comforter gets washed about 1 time a month alone. Sweaters get put in a pillow case and washed with the same colors (Light or dark). Your black and white t-shirt goes in with the lights. Lights are any color that won't make the other colors in your wash turn wierd. Red goes in with darks or your underwear turns pink. Soap...use 1/2 the amount reccomended of any soap. Try not to buy the! cheap soap. Bleach.......Don't use it unless you pre-treated something white and the stain is still there. Never pour it on fabric. Dissolve it first then add your clothing. If something is really gross and dirty. Wash it alone or soak it overnight in the sink. Then wash it again as normal. Never just wash 1 thing it's a waste of soap and money unless that 1 thing is a comfortor or you took a mud bath in it. Use the machines late at night or during times when few people are there. Then you can wash everything at once and dry it all at once using several machines.Empty pockets when you take stuff off. If clothing has an odor put 1/2 cup of vinegar or 1/4 cup baking soda in the wash. Fabric softener is important. It keeps your stuff from feeling like sandpaper....Show more
