Any Sucesessful Authors In Here?
answers1: Maybe you should ask if anybody has sold work to somewhere
other than a vanity or scam publisher. And what standard are you
applying as being successful (just being able to sell the manuscript
to anybody, or being able to earn out their advance)?
Being "published" by poetry.com or publish america is not a reliable
measure of quality and carries little weight as a real publishing
credit with reputable agents and publishers (and readers). There are
rare exceptions.
Think about it.
Would you want to see a surgeon who got his degree at a real
university or a do-it-yourself diploma kit?

Would you feel cheated buying a product and finding out it's poorly
made? And you can't get your money back.

I want to read something agents and editors think is worth reading,
not something that gets published because the author can afford $5k to
have it done.
Yes, it takes time and a lot of rejections to get published. That's
the price of writing as a craft, not a hobby. Many people are
impatient to see their dreams realized with their own book on the
shelf, but not willing to work harder to get there. The scams and
vanity operations know and take advantage of this.
answers3: I've met a few. There are very few published authors who
even have the time to have their own social life, let alone answer our
questions.
I'M a PUBLISHED author, in all technicality. I say it that way because
it was a short story that won first place in a local competition. It
was technically published, but only in a set of about fifty books
overall, none of which were sold for any given retail. And even that
doesn't really count (except in my own head. lol)

But that's about all I've got for you.

Good luck in your search. :)
answers4: I won't say successful, but I wrote technical procedures and
manuals for the US Air Force, NAVAIR, (the air branch of the US Navy)
NATO and NASA as well as a few companies. I was good enough to get two
grants totaling $10,000 for writing papers on Ancient History of the
Levant. I also contributed to a national weekly newspaper writing
history and satire. Nothing in well over 10 years though. And most of
my writing was unaided by computers.

I also, wrote a few programs in Machine, Assembly, and especially HPL
(HP's own version of basic. They just handled things backwards from
everyone else's Basic) for automating electronic equipment in
Metrology laboratories.

I have thought of writing a book about my experiences in Viet Nam. I
am a bit different. At the time I enjoyed it. It was returning to the
US that made me reflect on things differently. I don't know. But, if I
do write, I will finance it with another grant. They're easy to get.
answers5: there are a few actually published ones, but many with a
strong ambition. i havent sold ANY novels, but have won a few local
competitions and also got stories published in some magazines.
most contests offer cash or books, not a chance for publication.
