What is a philosophy class like?
Shandi Wedge: For the best answers, search on this site https://shorturl.im/3IpH5First of all, give yourself some credit. It is your FIRST philosophy class. And the circumstances (it being an online class and possibly not the first kind of philosophy class one should take) makes venturing out into such a topic difficult. The key to philosophy course work is to understand (especially pertaining to Western philosophy topics) "critical thinking." Understanding the basics of logic, argument formation, spotting fallacious arguments, etc. make such studies easier. What is the class anyway? What's the name of the course? Knowing that might help us provide some more specific help. P.S. - Here's a couple of quotes to keep in mind when the stress really starts to mount and you start feeling less intelligent than others in class: âPhilosophy is to the real world as masturbation is to sex.â -- Karl Marx quotes (German political Philosopher and revolutionary, 1818-1883) "Linda Eme! ry: A philosophy major? Now, what can you do with a philosophy major? Bruce Lee: You can think deep thoughts about being unemployed." -- Memorable quotes for Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story (1993) So, don't take it so seriously....Show more

Jesse Pirieda: AN EASY CLASS.Lots of discussions to take part in,and a few outside readings. If you are a person of faith, stick to your beliefs. There are no right or wrong answers. You should ,however, be prepared to back your answers,
Delora Struzzi: one should not be a coward but be bold to face the irregularities from all walls of life with explanations from the tutor and one need to put the faith outside before entering the class for philosophy lessons.
David Boehler: They vary (i have two degrees in Philosophy). ! On one course i did, the lecturer gave lectures to an empty r! oom for an entire term, but that's not typical. It really depends on the lecturer, though people tend to find some subjects harder than others. I also heard about a lecturer who sat under the table and refused to start until all of his students did the same. That was pretentious and childish, i thought. An example of subject matter: logical theory. Is a name something which has the same referent in all possible worlds? Does the identity relation indicate that the two referents have the same content? Does the word "the" in English enrich the language by meaning anything real or is it just an embellishment?Another area: Metaphysics. Is there any relation between correct prediction of an event and its inevitability? Is space a relationship between things or a thing itself? How does time pass?...Show more
Esmeralda Pigram: Like any class, it can depend a lot on the teacher, your fellow students, and the particular subject material you're looking at.An important ! thing to know going in is that most philosophy classes don't tolerate sacred cows too much... things that would NEVER be discussed in a regular class might come up all the time. Like any good debate, if you have a point of view you will be expected to defend it (or keep quiet, I suppose, but what's the fun in that?). In some of the classes I attended, this proved difficult for some people who didn't like having their religious, ethical, or other choices called into question and considered from different angles. If you can keep an open mind and consider and argue something you might not believe yourself, you should probably have a grand time!...Show more
Walter Scordino: in fact my favorite teacher was the philosophy one, i really liked how she gave the class and she suddenly made us confused to see who was paying attention, i always knew this pattern because i always found that class very interesting, but for some reason half of my classmates were always sleeping, s! he liked to imitate the sophistry philosophy and lol i just laugh becau! se she liked to tell fake things to catch our attention and the class was like amazed by some lies, luv it and my teacher but i'm sure that if you like philosophy you will like the class.... hehe but my teacher was funny.......Show more
