emancipated 16 year old car insurance help?
Toya Braskett: So many great replies already for this
Elva Batie: yes the car is part of the problem but even with a 4 cil car its still very high. i supose its always going to be pricey because the fact im 16. progressive has it at 289$ a month, but thats the minimal coverage. Is it not smart to get the minimal coverage, a bad accident could get you sued and you could be paying for awhile...
Virgilio Echter: If indeed you become an emancipated minor, the cheaper alternative of being added to your parents policy is not available to you.Being under age 25 and driving a muscle car is going to make your rates very high, I would guess everyone will quote you right around $500 a month.
Elinore Schlinker: Good question
Barrett Felicia: Zach, coverage for minimum liability for any male under 22 is GOING to run, between $2500 and $3,000 a year. More, maybe a LOT more, if you want ANY coverage on the car at all. There IS no cheap insurance for a young guy -! under 25 - driving a Camaro. Period. Those numbers you're quoting, are all "in the ball park" for a sports car with an under 22 male driver with collision and comprehensive added. That's JUST how much it costs. I'd strongly suggest you sell your Camaro, buy a 10 year old Toyota Corolla, and carry just liability on it. Grades are not going to make a significant difference.Worse, an emancipated minor cannot buy car insurance online - you need to go into an agents office.Consumer Reports estimates that it costs the average (non minor) driver $10,000 a year to own a car. It very well could be that at this stage in your life, you can't afford to own a car....Show more
Providencia Serpe: Insurance at age 16 for a reasonable price? Ain't going to happen. Drivers aged 16-25 are the highest insurance risk, and thus will pay more for insurance. That's the way it is.
Joey Mekeel: $475 x 12 months = $5700You are a young driver with a fast car. Insurance is going to be! very expensive for you. If you want cheaper insurance - sell ! the camero and purchase a 4 cyl 4 door sedan or a minivan. You're still going to pay through the nose - that's the price of being young. But getting rid of the fast car will help. The only other thing you can do is to get quotes from lots of different companies. Perhaps speaking to an independent agent (one who writes for lots of insurance companies) may help....Show more
