What kind of Engineer should I be?
Dalila Yoon: How much experience do you have already? I'm not sure how you are making your decision - are you going to pick something you enjoy? I'm guessing not as you say you 'enjoy coding...' but know for sure you're not going to a software engineer.Your first decision will be to choose a university course in engineering. You'll want to look at electronics engineering, possibly mechatronics, maybe computer science. Then, you'll want some experience in industry, or possibly do some further study/research. In general professional engineering is about more than just doing stuff - you may want to move out od development and into management, sales, research, or you may start your own consultancy. To get into this field you'll have to understand hardware and software to some degree, because that's how computer control systems work. Engineers often find themselves solving the problem that is front of them, because it interests them, is funded, or it presents the best o! pportunity at that point. Career paths are not all that predictable....Show more
Clement Viscarro: I also wouldn't want to work with cars, or any other type of automobile.
Augustus Sarria: Electronic engineering sounds about right for you. They're hands on in product development.. from the latest cell phones, to the most advanced PDAs
Pasty Cobbett: I'm a civil sub engineer, so i would like to design earth quake resisting building and want to work with this field.
