How does animal testing affect the environment?

Deangelo Marchak: Many toxic chemicals are first tested on animals by commercial companies in places such as Huntingdon Life Sciences, so that they can be insulated from legal action by people who have used these chemicals in good faith, believing that they have been adequately tested for safety, only then to suffer serious damage to their health as a result. That drugs or chemicals have been tested on animals is an excellent legal defence in court for the petrochemical and pharmaceutical industries against legal actions for poisoning and harmful side effects.
