Dorinda Metzer: The concept of an arranged marriage is highly misunderstood in Muslim community. It is usually perceived as your parents choosing and deciding for you whom to marry with while its not like that. A while back I answered a non-Muslim friend of mine on the arranged marriage concept, just like everyone else she had a very bad image of this practice and once explained she was very much appreciative of the wisdom behind Islamic teaching. The truth of the matter is that the Islamic teaching hasn't been understood at its roots when coming down to an arranged marriage.Arranged marriage is in reality your parents/family helping you out with finding a suitable partner (by this I don't mean you should be looking out for your partner by yourself which in real! ity could seed a lot of fitna in the society). The proper process with an arranged marriage is when your family is satisfied by the proposal keeping in mind yours and the family's priorities. Depending on the maturity of the couple, the couple is allowed to undergo a courtship process within Islamic boundaries i.e., meeting up to discuss certain concerns etc. in the presence of a supervisor in a public place and/or home etc. During all this process you are advised not to overlook the most important aspect which is making prayer with special concern on a regular basis. So, for your question then - if the arranged marriage concept is well-understood and implemented then it would be selective breeding plus natural selection both altogether and guess what - you get the best of both worlds this way....Show more
Merlin Fleischhacker: when like minded people marry it can be called selective breeding too.
Toby Caswell: Honestly, it's mainly about money and inbreeding. ! Families do not want there money going out of the family, so ! they arranged marriages with cousins or other close relatives. or they insist there children marry within there tribe, clan, so again more inbreeding.ulama(Muslim scholars) have already said any arranged marriage where one or both in the "marriage" are forced or pushed into the marriage, then the marriage is not legitimate, all the children from the sham marriage are ibn/ibnt zeenah(basically son/daughter of fornication) and the couple are technically boyfriend and girlfriend living together, thus subject to the punishments for premarital sex, living with a non mahrum....Show more
Mel Crapo: 'love marriage'... what exactly is that?you can not have a love marriage unless u have had that partner has your boy/girl friend and eventually fell in love which is haraam... and it is haraam for the man and woman to be in the same room together or even in the same space together (chatting) without the girl having a mahram with her who should usually be her wali.whether the pers! on chooses themselves or someone recommends someone at the end of the day it will be that persons decision whether or not they choose to marry the other.if this does not happen and the person is forced or has no choice in the selection then this is not from Islam....Show more
Reginald Maxi: Arranged marriages are the cause of inbreeding and genetic disorders of the children born of them.Like it or not, this is a truth about the growing epidemic of genetic disorder in babies in the Muslim Community.....Show more
