Por! firio Cahall: Are you using un-whitened sugar because you can't find a white sugar that hasn't been filtered through bone char? If you have nothing against white sugar, then try using it instead of a darker sugar. There is almost no way you could end up with white icing when using a dark sugar. The only thing you can do aside from that to make sure that it's as white as possible is to use clear vanilla and white vegetable shortening (instead of margarine). There are some companies out there who make white sugar using different filters besides bone char. Figure out what brands are available to you at your grocery store and contact the manufacturer to find out if they use bone char....Show more

Beau Starcevic: every time i! make a frosting it turns out brown even though the recipe shows pictures of white frosting. i know its because my sugar is unwhitened, but the recipes ive used so far were specifically for vegan frosting, yet they turned out pure white.what do i need to do? is there a way to whiten the frosting/sugar?
Julienne Poplawski: I'm pretty sure such a bar exists, but products that are of that nature are almost always up there in price, due to the fact that they are specially made. im not saying that you wont find a bar that is affordable, but itll be hard. search around for specialty health food stores and the like. places like Trader Joes are good.
Jene Licausi: eat lots of beans, nuts, soy nuts, tofu (if you like that stuff). eat a lot of dairy. or take protein vitamins. there are a lot of foods out there with plenty of protein.cons: don't eat the right foods---some veg's don't know how to eat healthy and don't eat enough protein and get very sickpros: healthier, boo! sts immune system, reduces risk of heart diseases, you're saving the an! imals! yay vegetarians! we rock! lol!...Show more

Kelly Bistodeau: Have you tried Paleo Recipe Book mechanism? Move on this site : http://Info.PaleoFoodGuides.com . This will absolutely save everyone!
Marco Stolarz: Vegetarian is fine since you can get what you need from milk and eggs but being vegan and making a baby may be taking a ris! k. Watch your teeth since an inadequate diet will affect them before your baby. Nursing actually is the time when you will need the most nutrition. This article was written by a vegan:http://www.nytimes.com/2007/05/21/opinion/21planck...I'm going to get a bunch of down thumbs here, but babies should be healthy. As for the video above, most of us do not eat kittens dogs or dolphins....Show more
Scot Rotruck: yes, i havent been able to find white sugar that is vegan. the only problem is, i need this done tonight. i think i found a white powdered vegan sugar, but when i powdered my sugar the first time, it looked white, but when i added the water and stuff it turned a tannish color. i also can't find clear vanilla. i'll try one more batch and if that doesn't work i guess it will just have to look brown-ish
Freddy Shutler: You're getting ridiculous and uneducated responses from a lot of people. If you want to become vegetarian, it is absolutely possible to get all! the nutrients you need. And you do NOT have to drink milk to be healt! hy! Protein is not an issue...you can get protein from practically anything you eat, for example, green leafy vegetables, grains, etc. Calcium is not hard to get...it is readily available in many vegetables, including kale and spinach. Furthermore, the calcium from plants is often more easily absorbed by the body than calcium from milk. The only nutrients I would recommend being aware of and paying attention to are: -B12 (can be gotten from fortified foods--i.e. fortified cereals, soymilk, etc.) -Iodine (can be gotten from sea vegetables or iodized salt) -Omega-3's (easily gotten from flax seed)It's really very easy to eat a very nutritious diet as a vegetarian...it just requires some effort in the beginning to learn about it. You can eat all kinds of foods, and it can be a lot of fun, because a lot of it will probably be new to you... for example, seitan is a protein-rich meat substitute that is made from wheat gluten. Most meat eaters will never take the time to ! try it, but it is absolutely delicious and can be prepared in a million different ways. Keep researching vegetarianism. And as for the biased, uninformed people on this website that like to spread lies and myths about vegetarianism--don't let them tell you what to do. Once you've done some real research, you can make up your own mind about it....Show more

Joaquin Dronko: I'd like to know what nutrients you're losing from meat. Oh.. you mean you don't know?People loooove to spout that ****, d! on't they? Bennie Lantgen: I am trying to get pregnant and researching if being a vegetarian is healthy for the baby. I have been a vegetarian for 3 years but I am afraid the baby wont get the nutrition it needs. Any thoughts?
Colby Millberg: other then using refined white sugar no. unless you make half cool whip and pudding
Solomon Belback: Yes, theres nothing your baby need from meat that you can't get elsewhere Also, if you give birth and raise a child without meat then you will save lives and your kid will have no cravings for meat. Its all good. :) Good luck with the bab! y
Marita Stadick: i found vegan white powdered sugar and used tha! t. it wasnt that off-white. the next day i found out though that the normal frosting we usualy used before i went vegan was vegan. but the cake turned out all right
Indira Wassell: the real ironic thing about this is, the reason i need the white icing is for the bones on what im decorating the cake as, and the reason i can't do it is because of bone char(its going to be decorated as a skelanimal)
Kris Bozelle: Obamas Shoes, that artical was caused by the parents abuse, not researching, consulting a non bias nutritionalist OR feeding the proper diet to the baby. It has nothing to do with veganism, only the parents stupidity. In the vegan sourcebook there is a quite a bit of info about vegan pregnancies. As a pregnant vegan you need to eat enough food to maintain an idea weight gain. For most women that is about 1 1/2 lbs per week starting at the 4th month of pregnancy.Limit empty calorie foods. Your baby needs to be healthy, so do you! Strictly healthy foods, litte! , very little junk food. When pregnant as a vegan(Not true as vegetarian beacuse you can get b12 from milk and eggs) you need a b12 suppliment, your baby needs it more than you do.Lots of calcium, a calcium rich diet is best. Between 1000 and 1300 mg per day.Lots of iron! Your doctor might perscribe an iron suppliment for you, even if he/she does, still try to eat lots of leafy green veggies to get iron! You NEED sun exposiure! To get vitamin D you need to be in the sun! If you are put on bedrest or can not get outside, a suppliment is best.Letting you know, it is verry possible to raise a 100% vegetarian child, but contacting a nutritionalist and pediatrition about it is a good choice.I suggest talking to a nutritionalist about your diet, and your docor and see if they perscribe anything or tell you to do anything species to have a 100% healthy baby! The vegan sourcebook also has some good infomation about riasing a vegan child, that also applies to vegetarian!:)...Show more!
Ardelia Liptow: I'll try to address each of your questions indiv! idually (it will keep me from rambling! lol)1- Nutrients. It is a really popular misconception that meat contains all this wonderful protein and wonderful minerals that are not found anywhere else. That's a complete lie. Vitamin B12 is the only nutrient that is strictly found in meat. All other essential nutrients that enable our bodies to function can be found in fruit, vegetables, beans and legumes. Oh - and I won't get too worked up over losing B12. We only need trace amounts of it anyway and if you take a multivitamin, you're fine. 2- Pros: I can't say that the following is true for all vegetarians, but I have experienced these positive things and I've heard the same from others. Increased energy, more restful sleep, more regular bathroom trips (due to the higher amount of fibre in the diet), decreased risk for diabetes, cancer, atherosclerosis, and heart disease, and a healthier diet overall.Cons: Eating out can be difficult, (at first) menu planning is hard, you have ! to constantly defend yourself and your lifestyle, and it takes your body a little time to get used to the change.3- Personally, I eat a lot of different foods. I love veggie lo mien, veggie stir-fry, various pastas, different salads, veggie sandwiches, etc. Good luck!...Show more
Keven Woodington: The mother of my children was vegan, so am I, and so are those children their whole lives. We had home births using midwives. The best experience ever. Midwives are about 100 times more knowledgeable than doctors at hospitals in regards to birthing. Not to mention, they are gentle, kind, and not on some sort of schedule, and being born at home, they are not born into a hospital environment where there are all sorts of sicknesses floating around. Our children were born very healthy, no problems at all, very healthy weight, and now they are older and tall for their age and just in overall great health. There are lots of books about vegetarian pregnancy out there. Dr Mic! hael Klaper has a good one. I also recommend "Macrobiotic Pregnancy an! d Care of the Newborn by Michio Kushi -- fantastic book.Midwives also educate you all about foods that you should make certain to eat and certain to avoid. Such as certain foods can promote breast milk production while others (such as sage) will actually stop it. Certain foods will cause colic (bad indigestion in the breastfed baby) while others will not. We just just had the best experience ever with the midwives and I couldn't recommend a better way to have a baby.During pregnancy their mother avoided all junk foods, sugar, msg, additives, chemicals, second hand smoke, coffee, caffeine, deep fried foods, fast food, and well... all those things that you already know are bad for you (are about 1000 times as bad for a developing baby). She just ate a very good whole foods diet mostly organic, all vegan... and as a result, the babies were in perfect health. The midwives see all sorts of problems over the years and they can clearly see the connections between a healthy mot! her/father and a healthy baby/birth. Where I live (Canada) midwives are covered by medical. If you live somewhere where you cannot afford a midwife... hm... well, think of it as the best investment you can imagine. The health of a newborn will affect their future health. It's their foundation of health. They need a good foundation....Show more
Curtis Josef: well chuck norris is not a vegitarian so i would say dont be a vegitarian....
Darcie Peraha: You aren't actually losing many nutrients from not eating meat. As long as you eat a healthy, balanced diet which includes vegetables, fruits, nuts, and whole grains, you shouldn't have to worry about anything other than vitamin B12. Many vegetarian foods are fortified with vitamin B12, so most vegetarians don't need to take a supplement.Contrary to popular belief, you do not need to consume a lot of, or even any, soy products if you do not want to.Also, you did not mention which type of vegetarian you are consid! ering becoming. Vegans avoid all animal products. Lacto vegetarians eat! dairy products. Ovo vegetarians eat eggs. Lacto-Ovo vegetarians eat both dairy and eggs.As for what kinds of foods do vegetarians eat: Well, I eat all different kinds of foods. I recommend getting a vegetarian cookbook such as Vegan with a Vengeance or the Moosewood cookbooks....Show more
Buster Exline: Yes vegetarianism is perfectly healthy during pregnancy :)I was a vegan throughout my pregnancy, and gave birth to a very healthy daughter at the end of it. 1.5 years later, I still breastfeed and we are a happy, healthy vegan family. With regards to the article posted by Obamas Shows- that instance had nothing to do with the parents being vegan., In fact, the judge in the case concluded that they just used 'veganism' as an excuse to try to get out of it, and that it was simply a case of them being neglectful parents. There is no reason at all why vegan children should be unhealthy given a well balanced diet. If that woman had had 2 brain cells, or any interest in her ! childs well being she would have breastfed, not given the baby soy milk. But anyway, yes you and your baby will be fine on a vegetarian diet. Most doctors fully agree with this- in fact my own doctors response when I told him I was a vegan was ''Oh good, I dont need to bother lecturing you on good diet then''. Just ensure you have a well balanced diet, and as with all pregnant women, take your pre-natal vitamins.Good luck and dont worry!...Show more
