Lashawn Zabarkes: We just type slowly and use small words so that you can understand what we are saying, as most JW's were discouraged from perusing a higher education.
Dorris Homola: I'm not a JW, but I think that higher education is honestly one of the biggest scams in America today. Look at the millions of college graduates who have massive debt and can't find decent-paying jobs. Most college degrees are not worth anything; the few degrees that have any value are often overpriced....Show more
Mandy Mustaro: For the same reason that supporters of "Jehovah's Witnesses" present incomplete information about higher education. They want to to believe their position is correct. The best advice is to thoroughly research information and statistics for oneself.
Danica Timperman: As usual the Bible itself answers the question.1 Corinthians 15:33 " Do not be misled. Bad associations spoil* useful habits."This Bible warning is there for a purpose. It is a medica! l fact that young brains do not mature until well into their 20s. Boys may not 'grow up' until nearly 30. These young ones can be easily infected by the world.Illustrate it this way. You have a young dog. He goes running into the woods and has fun chasing animals he finds. Nothing wrong with that, right? But what if one of those animals he has fun chasing is a black and white one? While you still love your young dog, I will guarantee that he will not be welcome in your house until he has gone through a rigorous cleaning routine. The same can happen to our young men and women while away from home playing with other young ones. They can come home totally different than when they left. Many ruin their lives. Just use your imagination. It is all to easy to get caught up in a situation without planning to.Is education wrong? No. For verification just ask our JWs who are doctors, lawyers, business owners, scientists, chemists, pharmacists, teachers, engineers and so on! . And I have not mentioned the trades; carpenters, dry wall, ! builders, plumbers, pipe fitters, welders, crane operators, divers and so on. Much of the music you enjoy in movies is written and composed by JWs.Here is a quote from former President of the US, Harry Truman. "If I hadn't been President of the United States, I probably would have ended up a piano player in a bawdy house." __Harry S. Truman (I think the original quote was not 'bawdy')http://www.brainyquote.com/quotes/authors/h/harry_...Why did I put that in here? Simple. Do you have to be the most educated? Or do you just have to use the talents you now have? JWs use their talents to support their ministry. Whether that talent to support themselves and their family is white collar or blue collar, is not important. Our ministry is important to us.Why would any of us as parents want to see our children come home with a bad 'smell' about them, no longer fit associates without major cleaning? That can happen away from home at a university....Show more
Byron For! tmann: I have never used that argument in my opposition to the cult known as "Jehovah's Witnesses".
Terrell Voltz:
Raye Tredennick: It's a form of bullying. People with big mouths and small brains latch on to the idea and repeat it. Some haven't learn that intelligence, knowledge, and formal education are not interchangeable terms with identical meanings. Or if you have one the rest always follow. There are few things more offensive to me than someone who thinks that they are smarter than anyone who has less formal education than they do. I have worked with some who have many high degrees (it was required) , a few geniuses and some not enough sense to understand simple basic everyday living common tasks, or why their life is a mess. Some you wonder how they even got through school (not just my opinion neither-many know such people) Some people act like school is the only place anyone can learn anything. This is ridiculous because at some point, everyon! e eventually finishes school, and what then? Are you done learning for! the rest of your life? Of course not! We continue to learn through out our entire lives and we get knowledge from many places not just schools. Or should (I do wonder on some) I'm always looking for more to learn. Many churches don't teach the scriptures. They give nice long sermons maybe but little teaching of the Scriptures themselves. How the book all fits together-what was and what is to come. And they should be centering on that teaching most of all. We have many people bible ignorant. They don't even seem to know it. Ever watch Jeopardy the game on TV? That is the least liked subject for most of these educated brains. For something that has had such a great impact on people all throughout history you would think more would learn more about the scriptures. They don't know it. To bad too because it has a lot to teach on living a good life. They are missing out.Iâm not disparaging education here. Obviously our colleges and universities play an important role,! especially in this high tech age we live in, but for the most part they provide educations related to specific fields. A brain surgeon does not necessarily have any more expertise in economics for example, than a fireman. Even if someone has a degree in a certain subject, that doesnât always mean that others opinion has no value compared to his or hers. Even those in science with degrees argue with each other. Most people have little relevant experience dealing with all topics in any given subjectAnd if my car breaks down -I don't need someone who has a masters in psychology, science or history from a collage. I want to hear from someone who knows how to fix it. And the good morals not to overcharge ! Many need cars to get around. Which isn't learn in most secular schools. And has the knowledge to do so rather he went to school or not. That is with many things in life. What is the most important thing to do in this life?I believe there is something that is more import! ant than just getting a good education. And an education as mention by ! others-does not mean one is wise. Or that will give them life. People who put their faith in that or money and the things of the world that it brings were not always the wisest on earth as history often points out. And few are remembered. I believe one who knows God well and is trying their best to live to his standards and teach this to others are the most important people in the world. Because that kind of knowledge and education if applied not only helps the world but means everlasting life. There are different types of bullies, but they all want to impose their will on other people through intimidation. By your post, Iâm sure youâre familiar with them. They will often point out to you, their level of education or what they think is your lack. You know, so just in case they hope others didnât already know that they are supposely superior to you--PFFFT. *Their mentality and actions are of a middle grade schooler there" . The only opinions that matter! to them belong to people on their side, and these opinions are to be regarded as facts they feel. They always have plenty of these suppose âfactsâ (often twisted or leave things out as you pointed out) and try to use figures to support their arguments, but donât question any of it, or you will make them upset or angry. They feel entitled to win an argument by virtue of these rants and one way or another, they will try to intimidate people who disagree with them. Never mind if any of it makes any Real Sense, they think they are âmore educatedâ than others. And most with any intelligent and common sense can see by their rants of such things and questions that just isn't true....Show more

Corey Rohleder: Opposers want to make us seem like a cult, so they will take things out of context, tell half truths, or tell lies. This is a form of persecution that even Jesus had to go through, though he never did anything wrong; people called him a drunk, a blasphemer, and a glutton, and accused him of expelling demons by Satan's authority. People did this to all of Jesus' disciples.
Marty Tichnell: I don't need to present incomplete information, your OWN quote does so on it's own. What your Watchtower terms as "harmful propaganda" is actually critical thinking skills. The antithesis of your cult-like "learning" who's question and answer format would be for a 3rd grader is critical thinking which comes with a higher education.Jehovah's Witnesses clearly discriminate! against intellectualism and anyone who holds an advanced degree. Why would that be?Because your cult can't hold up to any type of deep scrutiny. Marti Declue:! Well, I believe that even after death, we will have an option to repent and show that we are truly sorry and ask for forgiveness. If someone is so evil that they still don't repent, then maybe they will go into their own hell, which could be nothingness or the lack of consciousness or just complete emptiness.
Betsey Muehlbach: Hello?? You sound so sweet! Come back!
Bell Pasco: Dear Orion. Tell me about lost souls - how they became lost, for what reason? Then tell me about hell, why must there be a hell? When you can answer all these questions, then you have studied the Bible, God's word, and you will not need to ask such foolish questions. Incidentally, I recommend you read 1 Cor 2.14. This verse explains why you don't understand the Bible to begin with. Your only hope is to repent of your sin, seek out your God, Jesus Christ and ask him to please come into your life and open your eyes to the truth of his word. You may be angry with what I've said but you wil! l come to love me when this change takes place in your heart.
Damaris Weiler: So tell me if this is incorrect information. It has been my experience that I have yet to encounter a Jehovah Witness with a bachelor of arts degree (or Masters) which included numerous courses in philosophy. Philosophy is merely the truth viewed from a different perspective. Everything in the bible is the truth, but not all truth is confined to the Bible. Because what reason can determine as the truth on its own, scripture will never challenge it. I have always encouraged JW's to get this type of education, if for no other reason, then to better defend their position against those who have such degrees. Because those with such degrees can easily see through their positions while fully accepting scripture....Show more

Ardell Luy: Obviously because it suits their bias and invective toward JWs. As the old saying goes: Don't let the truth to get in! the way of a good story. And, let's face it, you don't have to look fa! r here on R & S to see someone painting JWs in a bad light, regardless of whether it's true or not. It is scarcely surprising, though, given that JWs make such a nuisance of themselves by obeying Jesus' command to his disciples to go from door to door, preaching the good news of God's Kingdom. [Matthew 10:11-14; 24:14; Luke 8:1; Acts 5:42; 20:20] I mean to say, they preach the hope of humans living forever on a paradise earth, living as Psalms 37:11 states: "But the meek ones themselves will possess the earth, And they will indeed find their exquisite delight in the abundance of peace," and where Psalms 145:16 says of our creator, "You are opening your hand and satisfying the desire of every living thing."How dreadful is that? What's so great about a peaceful new world when we can continue with the dreary, monotonous daily grind, the insecurity, the uncertainty, the anxiety, and sometimes even fear and dread that you face in this system, frequently leaving you fatigued and ! even exhausted, your nerves frazzled? Who would ever want to live in such a new earth when you can have the uncertainty and unease about the future that this old system provides? [Well, me and the great majority of 7.8M other JWs, just for starters]Those diabolical JWs clearly deserve to be treated derisively and scornfully for obeying what Jesus said and preaching such good news! [Matthew 24:9] Of course, even though I and other JWs have been able to demonstrate the error of claims people on R & S make against JWs, others will still quote those erroneous claims as if they were, somehow, incontrovertible fact.Their rationale seems to be, "I read it somewhere, so it must be true."@ gizmoII: you say, "So tell me if this is incorrect information. It has been my experience that I have yet to encounter a Jehovah Witness with a bachelor of arts degree (or Masters) which included numerous courses in philosophy." Alane Antes: I wonder if those writings that describe hell as a pit of fire are meant to be taken literally? Is hell a pit of fire filled with floating, suffering, damned souls? Or were those descriptions allegory--poetic descriptions of being shunned from God's presence? Are 'lost souls' just 'confused' souls? Or are they souls who decided to commit evil? Whether or not one believes in God, Buddha, Krishna, or any other version of the Creator of all (or believes in none of them) we are all morally obligated to strive for goodness, and all societies have collectively outlined basically, what 'goodness' is. It sounds like you're asking God to be compassionate for souls who show no compassion to others. And guess what?He does. As long as they believe and repent.Isn't that cool?

Antwan Schrum: Because any JW knows the real reason for the Watchtower's stand against higher education is on the first quote. ...they are made to believe that university education will erode their faith in the 'truth' that is the Watchtower organisation. The truth is that it's a lot easily to manipulate and control persons with little education...with no critical thinking skills...such ones are easily indoctrinated into wasting their time serving as free labour for the Watchtower Publishing company. ..this is clearly seen in that the not so encouraging growth in the Watchtower is in developing countries among people with little education and limited internet accessibility.@TimYou are correct ,there are many JWs who pursue University education...but they make a personal choice that goes against ! what the Watchtower teaches...In my part of the world, one cannot get a decent job without a University degree.During recent Circuit Assembly, the District Overseer spent a lot of time blasting JWs pursuing higher education..and I personally know elders who have been pressured to step down by Circuit Overseers because either they or their children were pursuing university education....Show more

Judie Kise: The problem with the Jehovah's Witnesses (JW's) is that they have a culture that encourages people to not go to college, not because they don't want people to learn, but because the JW's are so incompetent that they don't know how to manage their own societies or manage their own lifestyles. The JW's is a culture of laziness and the people are completely incapable of taking care of themselves and the JW program doesn't prepare them, and they are COMPLETELY reliant on governments to take care of them. JW's like to read the Bible (which is good) but they are lacking in societal skills. They are completely clueless about the family, work, education, economies, nation-building, which is not at all how the Ancient Israelites were. Abraham and Moses took care of themselves and led a great nation of people. The JW's have no knowledge of how to do any of this. A lot of JW's will just retort that! they spend a lot of time reading the Bible and tracting, but that's just an excuse. That's the taking the easy way out. Imagine if a student got all F's in school and then started saying, oh but I read a lot of comic books, so I'm still smart. Yeah, maybe the kid is smart, but by neglecting to learn how to do properly in school, the student doesn't learn how to learn or even how to behave and then they don't have those skills and they became a childish lazy person. The JW's have a problem with not being to take care of themselves and to be honest with you, I don't know where this attitude comes from. There's nothing honorable about what the JW's do, it's just JW's sticking their head in the sand and shunning their responsibilities. When you have a problem, you should try to fix it, not stick with the Bible and then say forget about everything else. What kind of attitude is that? It's immoral to behave that way and it's childish and it doesn't help people, you're essentially! mooching off of other people instead of contributing.A true Christian ! is a light in this world. A true Christian can be seen by their fruit. A true Christian is meant to be an example for the world, and is able to live life perfectly as life is meant to be lived. That requires knowledge about the world and how manage the world. How can the JW's be trusted with the things of the heaven, if they cannot even manage the things of the Earth. It is immoral to not work. It is immoral to not take care of yourself and it is immoral to avoid doing these things and taking the Bible in vain. The JW are breaking the commandment and using the name of the Bible and God, to get away with not taking care of themselves or their families or their own nation. You're not supposed to do something wrong and use the Bible as an excuse when you don't know how to do something. Why don't you learn how to do it? It's not difficult.First of all, I agree that most people shouldn't be going to college. You don't need a college degree to be successful or to get a good job. T! hat's not the issue. However, there are some professions where you NEED a college degree, like if you want to work in the medical field or if you want to be a teacher or a lawyer. You can NOT be a professional without a degree. Not only that, but in many fields you will be unlikely to move up the corporate ladder without a college degree. You also have to accept what comes with not having a college degree.Tell me this. If college were free, would you say it's better to have a college degree or not? The truth is college is NOT that expensive if you know how to budget and you go to the right school. A 4-year college degree is not that much more expensive than a technical degree and a lot of technical are getting more and more expensive. Especially those Associates degrees and those diploma mill technical schools where the degrees are not even worth that much. Many jobs don't even accept a degree from a technical school. If the JW's really had a problem with secular schools, th! en why don't they open their 4-year university? There's absolutely no e! xcuse for it. It's the "end of the world" mentality that encourages JW's to behave so immaturely. The Watchtower Organization promotes having people not learn and not grow and not fulfill their obligations as citizens. There's nothing godly about that. Jesus has high standards and the standards of the heavens are high. Heaven represents true perfection and righteousness in all forms. Galen Gowers: Why are you lost already? They've had a whole lifetime to make that decision and they chose not to. Where does personal responsibility ever come into all of this?
Kandi Lough: Their just being idiots. A degree doesn't mean you ar! e smart just means you passed a course. A degree definitely helps with finding a job. To some that isn't as important as their faith to God is. Certainly to a church it shouldn't be. And the time they want to devote to him. I think all people are given the opportunity to learn whether it be from getting a degree or just their daily experiences. If you don't absorb that knowledge a degree will do you no good. I know many like that. Case in point the opposers who use that as a weapon to put others down if they can. Some of them are ridiculous in how they try to twist things. Most people know you have people from all walks of life. Never underestimate the power of common sense. To answer the question, no, I don't even think a degree makes anyone smarter. Granted it is probable that it has expanded their knowledge but that is not to say that others could not acquire that same knowledge outside of an educational setting out of sheer personal interest or say, in a workplace! setting. I don't think you can generalize the impact a degree has on p! erson's intelligence or ability to apply that knowledge in a real world setting. I have met people with advanced degrees that are dumb as bricks and some without degrees that are simply brilliant. I think it all comes down to the individual. Those who use that lame excuse to put you down -I wonder about their sense if they have any. That poor reasoning they use is like, While history has had its share of uneducated serial killers â" it has also seen more of its share of highly educated murderers. Some of these killers even used their knowledge as a way to lure unsuspecting victims. Nadia Crauswell: Wow. Ginger gave a really different interpretation of Gehenna & hell-fire that I have never heard before. There is a sense of renewal in that. Definitely neat to think about!I think a place for rehabilitation can be found in Catholic belief: purgatory, in-between Heaven and Hell. And there are some Christians who actually don't even believe in Hell, or even Heaven (see Beliefnet chart down in the sources)! But, I totally agree. God *must* have better for lost souls than Hell. You'll find, though, that some very loving, compassionate Christians still believe that non-Christians are g! oing to Hell. Why? Because it is in their conservative Christian tradition, and they do not question it because it seems logical in the frame of their belief. This is kind of tragic but something we have to accept, and we still know that in spite of this belief, which is not key in their faith in God but a part of their interpretation of theology, that they can still be open and loving people. Some are inhibited in compassion through this belief, but many really are not, as I have learned from coming to know some conservative Christians. They don't understand when I try to explain that Hell does not make sense from a loving God, as they see everything through their established beliefs and faith. This used to sadden me, but now I understand it and let it go. They are good hearts, and that is all that matters. :)

Berry Gilmore: As an Adventist I do not agree on your veiw... However I would like to recommend a good website about hell....and it is helltruth.com . and not following God's will is called sin and that it hurts Him when people are killing, stealing and sinning so if you had a dog and it had some kind of deasies and it is suffering it would be better if you " put him down " or "put him to sleep" so it is the same thing with God for those who are sinning and getting hurt in God's grace and mercy he will have to do what he has to do.
